Freeport V.F.D. was formed in 1916. 24 years later, our fore fathers saw the need to provide emergency medical services to the citizens of the borough. So, on May 11, 1941 Freeport EMS was officially open. Over the years, due to the increased need for staffing, expanded coverage area, and the requirements of certifications, Freeport EMS is staff 24 hours a day with 1 A.L.S. crew, on the first out ambulance. The second out ambulance is staffed by career personnel during special events. And staffed by the volunteers at all other times. Freeport V.F.D. continues to be a volunteer department, with supplemental help by career EMS staff who are cross trained in the fire, rescue, and EMS fields.
